Description How To More Details

This is the new Arduino Revision 3! It sports an updated USB controller chip (was an atmega8u, now an atmega16u), duplicated Analog 4 and 5 pins next to the AREF pin (for future shields) and an IOREF pin next to the reset button (to let shields know the I/O voltage of the pins.)

Also, the reset button has moved next to the USB jack to allow for easy access when the shield a shield is on top.

Everything else is the same, processor, driver, board size, upload speed, etc, so it is compatible with all current shields and code.

The Arduino Uno is the wildly popular microcontroller board that has taken the world by storm. With it you can sense and control more of the physical world than your desktop computer. It's an open source physical computing platform based on a simple yet powerful microcontroller board and development environment for writing software for the board. The Uno is the latest model in Arduino line up and comes assembled and ready to fit right into your next project.

The Arduino Uno is a microcontroller board based on the ATmega328. It has 14 digital input/output pins (of which 6 can be used as PWM outputs), 6 analog inputs, a 16 MHz crystal oscillator, a USB connection, a power jack, an ICSP header, and a reset button. It contains everything needed to support the microcontroller; simply connect it to a computer with a USB cable or power it with a AC-to-DC adapter or battery to get started.

"Uno" means one in Italian and is named to mark the upcoming release of Arduino 1.0. The Uno and version 1.0 will be the reference versions of Arduno, moving forward. The Uno is the latest in a series of USB Arduino boards, and the reference model for the Arduino platform.

Note: This UNO version does not qualify for any discounts, but enjoy the new pricing, save $5 off MSRP!

I think the Upload/Download nomenclature is more based on the initiator of the transfer and which side of the transfer you are referring to.

If you are speaking from the perspective of a PC, you can download from the internet, and upload to a device like an arduino or cell phone. If the device is initiatiating the transfer, you can say that it is uploading data to a PC or downloading data from a PC.

To say it more simply, speak as if you are the device, and use "upload" as a synonym for "send" and "download" as a synonym for "receive". A PC sending data to an arduino is uploading to the arduino - but an arduino receiving data from the PC is downloading it.

The phrase "Download that to me" or "I'll upload that from you" don't make sense.

upload vs download March 22, 2012

Arduino upload vs download seems backwards from typical nomenclature.  Usually when moving data from a higher level machine to a lower level machine, we download as when using a personal computer to transfer code to a microcontroller.    e.g. from the internet to your PC is download...from your PC to your Arduino is downloading even further...
