- A burette is the fundamental tool for volumetric analyses. Unlike most inexpensive burettes, which use a clumsy tubing and clamp arrangement, the 50 mL glass burette included in this kit provides a ground-glass stopcock for fine, precise control of how much titrant is delivered. Support the burette with a ringstand and burette clamp, such as those included in the LABK1 kit.
- Volumetric flasks are used to make up reagents and other solutions of accurately known concentrations. This kit includes two glass volumetric flasks, each with a ground glass stopper. The 100 mL volumetric flask is useful for making up most solutions used in home labs. The 500 mL volumetric flask is useful for making up bench solutions that are used in larger quantities, such as dilute acids and bases.
- Graduated pipettes are used to measure small volumes of liquids with very high accuracy. This kit includes two Class B graduated pipettes. The 1.00 mL pipette is calibrated to 0.01 mL, and can be interpolated to about 0.001 mL. The 10.0 mL pipette is calibrated to 0.1 mL, and can be interpolated to about 0.1 mL.
- Pipetting by mouth is extremely dangerous, so this kit includes a rubber pipetter bulb that allows you to draw up and dispense liquids safely. To use this three-valve pipetter bulb, squeeze the first valve, squeeze the bulb to exhaust the air, and then release the first valve. Squeeze the second valve to draw liquid up into the pipette. Squeeze the third value to dispense the liquid accurately under fine control.
