Don't mistake this set for one of those toy microscope sets at the
local mall. Kids can do real science with this set, everything from
their first close-up examinations of leaf structures, insects, pond
life, fibers, and other tiny items to preparing whole mount slides,
section slides, and smear slides, to growing and observing their own
microorganism cultures, to putting together killer science fair
projects. And, although this set is best suited for elementary and
junior high/middle school students, in a pinch it can serve all the
way through high school.
The core of the set is our Model 109L microscope, which provides the standard 40X, 100X, and 400X magnification settings. This scope is scaled down for younger students, but uses the standard microscope form factor most common in schools. The 109L is child-friendly and easy to use, but prepares kids for an easy transition to high school level equipment and lab procedures. Its precision optical system uses achromatic, optical glass lenses, and its rugged metal frame is engineered and student-proofed for years of reliable performance. No cheap plastic lenses or moving parts here.
Most microscope sets include a few poor-quality prepared slides and maybe a dozen cheap plastic slides and cover slips. The MAKE Basic Microscope Set goes much further. Other than some common household items, this set contains everything your child needs to master essential microscopy skills and procedures.
