A complete distilling apparatus made from heat-resistant borosilicate glass with ground-glass joints at an amazingly low price. This distilling apparatus includes a 1000 mL (1 L) boiling flask, a 200 mm Graham condenser, and all the necessary connecting bits.
Because the ground-glass joints provide a gas-tight seal, you can use this apparatus to distill and purify anything from tap water—for an unlimited supply of distilled water—to acids and other corrosive liquids. (Obviously you must use extreme care and take all necessary safety precautions when distilling hazardous liquids.)
For a complete distillation setup, in addition to the LBCA16 distilling apparatus you'll also need the following equipment.
• One or two ring stands
• Two (or more) utility clamps
• Two lengths of flexible tubing to connect to a cold water supply and a drain
• A beaker, Erlenmeyer flask, or other receiving vessel
• A heat source
For a flameless heat source designed for this type of work, we recommend our laboratory hotplate or laboratory hotplate/stirrer, but if you are distilling nonflammable liquids you can use a standard alcohol or gas burner. In that case, you will also need a support ring and wire gauze.
