Pulse measurement can be a very useful thing. Doctors have employed the use of pulse measurement for hundreds of years to determine stress, relaxation, physical fitness levels, medical conditions, and more. This information is easy to gather using tactile measurement; you can determine your pulse rate by touching your arteries in your wrist or neck. What if you wanted to incorporate this information into a project? The Pulse Sensor measures subtle changes in light from expansion of the capillary blood vessels to sense your heartbeat. Gently place the sensor on any area of skin (such as a finger or earlobe) and it will transmit pulse data to your Arduino for processing. The included sample Processing / Arduino code lets you visualize your pulse data right on your computer. It's a simple, non-invasive, inexpensive way to incorporate biofeedback into your projects. Possible projects include lie detectors, relaxation aides, fitness training aides, games, and any thing else that may require the "human" element. Includes Velcro dots, an ear clip, and a long, 24" cable terminated with a standard 3 wire (power, ground, data) connector.

The Pulse Sensor AMPED is a greatly improved version of the original pulse sensor. This version incorporates amplification and noise cancellation circuitry into the hardware, making it much more reliable. It is compatible 3.3 and 5V microcontrollers giving you more flexibility and the processing visualization software and Arduino code have been streamlined and improved.
