Easy to build, even for a beginner December 12, 2012
Reviewer: Greg from Atlanta, GA United States
this was basically my first diy project: i taught myself how to solder and drill, and it was actually a lot of fun. I had a bit of initial confusion over what instructions to use (video or the guide above), but it was ok after a little trial and error, and i finished building everything in a few hours. the hardest part was probably getting the rubber sheath off of the tire valve, but i eventually figured out that wire cutters would allow me to clip off the right amount of rubber, so that the pliers could pull off the section of rubber that I needed to remove.

Be careful with PVC October 19, 2012
Reviewer: David from Hampton, NB Canada
Everything about this is cool, except you should never use PVC to contain compressed gas, the failure mode is catastrophic and the material shatters. Compressed liquids are fine. ABS should be used with compressed gas. For more info on plasic pipiing see: http://www.ipexinc.com/Content/Products/Product.aspx?ProductId=7&SubMarketId=6&MarketSegmentId=1&LanguageCode=en-CA

Intl. Shipping July 29, 2012
Reviewer: Andreas from Netherlands
International shipping is prohibitively  expensive -- about the same price as the kit itself. Couldn't you offer a cheaper option?

Great rocket, problems with kit June 11, 2012
Reviewer: Ken Shirriff from California United States
My daughter and I had a great time with the rocket (except for numerous trips onto the roof to retrieve it). The kit (which I got at the Maker Faire) had a few problems though. The 3/4"  x 1/2" reducer was missing. The rubber sheath does not just twist off the tire valve; it required work with a sharp knife and dremel. The rocket building guides and rocket templates were missing. The instructions call for large zip ties but two of the included zip ties were short. Given the price of the kit, I expected better. Once I got through the problems though the rocket was a success.

Fun, fun, fun October 30, 2011
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from United States
This was my first make project, and I would recommend it. Things I learned:
1)There are two sets of instructions online. One from the original magazine article, a second set that match the parts included in the mail order kit.  The kit follows a simpler approach to several parts of the rocket launcher.
2)I had to read the instructions several times to really get it.  I then did a "walk through" of the instructions were I matched things up without glue or cutting.
3)I was new to electrical connections, so this was the hard est part of this kit for me.  The wire which connects to the launch button needs to be soldered.  For everything else, use the "splice connectors."
4)I think the stereo wire included is too short.  This is a preference item, not a problem with the kit.
I would recommend this kit to others, particularly beginners.  You can make this kit with little trouble, but it does require some patience and a tinker's willingness to engage in some trial-and-error.

Great Launcher, Poor Kit. September 10, 2011
Reviewer: Douglas Johnson from Dallas, TX United States
The good news is the launcher is great.  Shoots paper rockets WAY up.

The bad news is the kit does not match the plans in the magazine.  There are inadequate cable ties instead of the band clamps in the plan.  There were extra pieces of PVC with no purpose.   Finally,  the tire valve supplied is a problem.  It is very difficult to cut the rubber off and the resulting metal valve is very slick and difficult to keep in the air hose.  Certainly the supplied cable tie doesn't do it.  -- Doug

Impressive, Fun November 12, 2010
Reviewer: MT from Marietta, GA United States
My daughter and I had a great Saturday morning building this kit. The results are pretty impressive, and we have wowed quite a few people with the power of the launcher. This is a great kit for introducing rocketry without the expense of traditional rocket motors and bodies.

Deceptively Powerful November 10, 2010
Reviewer: Gregory Marshall from Halifax, NS Canada
Wow! Some "experimental ballistics" has shown this device capable of launching an empty 500ml pop bottle to a substantial height.  (the top of a 2 story school).  The kit assembles very quickly and in one afternoon we were launch ready.  Thumbs up!
