Description How To More Details

Ultimaker 3D Printer Speed. Accuracy. Reliability. Resolution. Do these words describe your 3D printer? If not, take a closer look at this one! This PLA based printer can print up to 250mm/s, making it one of the fastest on the market. It prints at 100 micron resolution and has the potential to go lower with tweaking. Ultimaker dominated our Ultimate 3D Printer Buyer's Guide and won awards for being the "Fastest" and "Most Accurate" of all the printers we tested, making it one of the best printers on the market today.

The Ultimaker features an 8.25"x8.25"x8" build area (21x21x20.5 cm) and includes the Ulticontroller LCD interface so you can print without an attached computer. Just load your G-Code onto an SD card, put it in the machine, and press print! Also includes 1KG of silver PLA plastic to get you started.

While you can use many of the popular 3D printer software packages available, we use and recommend CURA, which is free, open source software developed by the Ultimaker Team.

The kit version comes unassembled and takes between 8 and 12 hours to build. No soldering is required, just follow the detailed instructions and you'll make your first print before you know it.

The assembled version arrives professionally assembled, calibrated, and rigorously tested by Ultimaker. Each includes a new spool of PLA so it's ready to print almost as soon as you open the box. These units may show some signs of use, but are all checked out 100%.

Missing parts January 21, 2014
Reviewer: Dissatisfied from Georgetown, TX United States
The kit I was shipped didn't include a Bowden Tube.
Maker Shed refused to send me the missing part and referred me to Ultimaker.
Ultimaker promised to send the part on 1/14.
In response to a follow-up email today (1/21) they promised to ship the part.
Never again for Ultimaker or Maker Shed.

Great Printer and Customer Service January 17, 2014
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from TX, USA
I bought the assembled version of the Ultimaker on a Friday night, and had in at my house the following Thursday, with 3 day shipping. Aside from some very minor scratches, presumably caused during shipping, it was in perfect condition.

The first calibration print was spot on - whoever calibrated it previously did a great job. All my prints since have been great as well, even at fast printing speeds.

As far as the printer itself goes - it has a large build volume, works off both USB and SD cards, and prints FAST. Definitely one to consider if you're shopping for something in this price-point.

Also, Maker Shed seems to have included an extra roll of filament, on top of the roll the description mentions. I can't say if they do this for everyone, but I was very pleased by that little bonus.

Best Bang for the Buck June 4, 2013
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from Ohio
My first printer Printrbot Plus, which was a great machine but I never could get it perfectly dialed in. I started looking at higher quality machines, including the Rep2 and Ultimaker. I knew a few people with Ultimakers and they absolutely loved them. When the Replicator 2 was released their main marketing point was "100 micron resolution." Ultimaker has had 100 micron resolution since it was released 2 years ago. Additionally, MakerBots print at around 80-100mm/s. The Ultimaker is capable of printing at 250mm/s - and costs $500 less!

I picked up my Ulitmaker at Maker Faire: NY and I'm completely happy with it. I've done countless overnight prints and have run about 5lbs of filament through the machine without issue. It is solid and the resolution is shockingly good. I wouldn't trade it for any other FDM 3D printer on the market (well, short of a Stratysis.)

So great to see Maker Shed carrying them. Shipping alone from the Netherlands (where Ultimaker is based) runs around $130,
