Did this as my second soldering project. Lesson learned, get some alligator clips to hold the PCB while working.
The kit goes together well, not too many parts, and instructions are clear. The board is TINY (like 2cm) and if you can't secure it down, you're going to chase it around whatever surface it's on while you try and solder. My job on the LEDs was not so hot, but after doing the soldering in such close quarters, I do feel more confident about moving on to other projects that are also tiny (though a better soldering iron is in order).
Overall: absolutely worth the ten dollars, a really satisfying build. Now it's going inside a plush robot to create a blinking chest plate.
