Description How To

Give life to a remote controlled "Meka-Crab" of your very own. It sidles sideways, legs moving in parallel without moving up and down, and raises only the tips of its legs to go over obstacles -- just like a real crab. Creepy coolness!

Includes instructions in Japanese, but we've got English instructions right here under the "How To" tab. MAKE is proud to be the exclusive distributor in North America for these brilliant kits, part of Gakken's Mechanical Animals Series.

Attack of the robo-crabs July 4, 2011
Reviewer: Ami Chayun from New York
It was a great experience building and running the kit.
The kit quality is good. Parts are machined exactly to sizes with almost no scruff. Like other reviewers also I loved the fact the parts are grouped by build steps.
The instructions are terrific. Every pitfall is documented, making construction smooth.

Contrary to other reviewers, my kit included lots of spare parts.

My only gripe is that the actual operation could be improved. The motor seems a bit weak and rubber feet would improve traction significantly.
Also, a status LED on the unit would be nice...

All in all, very good kit. A little more attention to details would make it great.

The video May 20, 2010
Reviewer: j michael rowland from Nashville, TN United States
Okay, I know it's meant to be a bit of fun on the website, and give you, as a side effect, some of the experience of assembling the kit. But (you knew there was going to be a "but," right?) my decision about whether to order the kit is based on the images of the thing and what it does. The images are overlaid, in almost every case, with some sort of marketing graphics, so there's no clear picture of what the thing looks like. As for the video: I tell you, it's cute, but I have no real interest in what you do with a doll head. What I want to see is what it's like to put it together (which it does give me), and, mostly, how it looks when it's moving. A few seconds in the video of the actual object moving (normally) would have been invaluable.

Okay, that having been said... I'm going to order one anyway.

Good product with some drawbacks November 16, 2009
Reviewer: Ravi Chandra Prodduturi from hyderabad, andhra pradesh India
First of all i would like to say that its a really good product and i loved building it from the scratch.

The parts are neatly packed and arranged in a good manner so that you can build it up in an easy process. All the parts needed for a single step are grouped together and packed neatly with a marking of the category too. That was really helpful.

One major thing i would didnt like about it is that there are almost exact number of screws and nuts provided a few extras would have been great as they are really tiny and its easy to loose them.

Then the guide is in chinese language, when the product is costing 70$ it would have been nice to provide a guide in english.

Except that there are no other drawbacks at all. Its a really good product if u r passionate about make-it-yourself kits.
