The kit was a lot of fun to solder together. I mistakenly put my transistor for the speaker on backwards and had to switch it around to get the music to play.
The instructions could use a little refining, when you consider the order in which the items are being soldered to the board, consider the relative height of the component above the board. for example , the socket sits lower on the board than the power led and I think its lower than the thermistor. So if you solder the socket on before the taller items they can easily let it set flat on the work surface.
A few other things are the wording on the documentation. For example the power led, if you put the long end to the bottom thinking lower length means longer then you will have your led in the wrong way and it wont work. it should say shorter end now lower length.
It fun and makes a great office birthday party gag.

I really liked this kit. It was really fun. I made this for my Mom's birthday, and she really liked it too. The instructions were clear, and it worked the first time I turned it on.

This was my first soldering I've ever done. Was able to successfully complete the project with the online instructions. I'd like to see improved instructions, and perhaps something more educational about what's going on.
Oh wait, the Power LED is not working :( and I have NO clue how to trouble-shoot this thing.
Other than that, it was super fun. :D

The instructions are only available from a url on a sheet that came with the kit. The site has no link. Had to add a jumper from R20 to the speaker for it to work. Knowledge of resister color values are assumed.
Why wasn't a 7805 or 7806 used so a 9V battery could be used? The 4 pack AA carrier removed much elegance this kit could have had. A 9V battery glued to the underside would have been nicer.
Be very careful about installing the 1/2W resister or thermistor. You breath on the thermistor is what blows out the candles. I found I has to let the thermistor warm for a minute before it worked. Otherwise these are nasty trick candle to blow out.
