Description How To

The BeetleBot is a simple kit to make a quick and basic obstacle-avoiding robot without using any solder. The BeetleBot is the simplest TRUE robot you can build. Use only a screwdriver to put it together, then watch it zoom and smartly bounce off things in it's way! No microcontrollers, ICs, or transistors are used - just two switches wired cleverly together form the brains of this robot that has been featured as a popular MAKE Magazine & Instructables.com project. 4 colors to choose from!

Beetle bot ..... March 11, 2012
Reviewer: Jay from United States
My ten year son and I worked on this for a science fair project and the thing did not work.  The contacts are loose and the diagram in the manual does not reflect the color coding of the wires etc. Contacted the solarbotics support desk and explained to them the need for help, one week before the science fair and well they did not have the time to help to make it work. I wasted the entire money 39.95 + shipping and handling. This product should be purchased if your core competency is in electric circuitry and you can do it without any help from the help desk. I will give it zero stars.  In the end an extremely disappointing experience

Big Bad Beetlebot Kit - GOOD! July 28, 2011
Reviewer: Anthony Jefferson from Fairport, NY United States
Easy to put together kit with good instructions and helpful diagrams and B&W photos. Everything is included, even a screwdriver. My 11 YO son and I had no trouble putting it together in about an hour.

The kit gets 4/5 instead of 5/5 stars because the wrong battery packs were included. The pre-drilled holes in these battery packs did not match either the instructions or the holes in the baseplate.

We resorted to using superglue, but a more permanent solution would have been to drill a couple of new holes in each battery pack to line up with the holes in the baseplate.
