Sodium bisulfite, also called sodium hydrogen sulfite, is the acid salt of sodium and sulfurous acid. It is a common laboratory chemical that is used as a source of sulfite ions for syntheses and analyses, and is a component of some specialized test reagents. Note that this chemical name is sometimes used to describe either of two different chemicals, and sometimes for a mixture of both. We provide sodium hydrogen sulfite, NaHSO3. (See also sodium metabisulfite) Warning! Harmful if swallowed or inhaled. May cause irritation. May cause allergic reaction.
