Sulfur is used in various elementary chemistry experiments. It is often burned to produce sulfur dioxide gas (toxic and choking), reacted with iron or other metals to produce metal sulfides, or reacted with sodium hydroxide to produce sodium polysulfide, a precursor to artificial rubber. Warning! Flammable solid! Burning sulfur emits highly toxic fumes. Sulfur dust suspended in air ignites easily. May cause allergic reaction.
