Connectivity at its core
Connectivity is central to the design of Kinoma Element, with Wi-Fi g/n integrated into the microcontroller, which also reduces the device’s size and power consumption.
Configurable and customizable
Kinoma Element is endlessly configurable. With 16 programmable pins, Kinoma Element works with off-the-shelf sensors, lights, motors, and actuators. Its enclosure can be removable, and – along with the PCB board design – is open source for customizability.
Made for developing production-ready devices
Kinoma Element is designed for projects, prototypes, and products. It runs FreeRTOS ported onto a 200 MHz ARM Cortex M4 from Marvell’s microcontroller line, which has been adopted by numerous companies for IoT products including August, Blossom, iHome, Rheem, Whirlpool, and Xiaomi.
JavaScript on the smallest devices
Kinoma Element illustrates how little space is required to run the full ES6 language on extremely constrained devices, and the possibilities of adding Wi-Fi and end-user scripting to any product. Execute in Place (XIP) technology is key to running JavaScript applications on a small embedded device. The 200 MHz ARM Cortex M4 microcontroller in Kinoma Element saves RAM by using XIP to run native ARM code directly from flash memory. The XS6 JavaScript Engine runs scripts directly from flash memory by implementing XIP for JavaScript byte code. This unique combination of XIP for both native and byte code frees the majority of RAM in Kinoma Element for application data.
