The Redpark TTL Cable for iOS is the latest revision of the popular RedPark Serial Cable. You can connect it directly to an Arduino using only jumper wires; a RS-232 serial to TTL adapter is no longer required.  No soldering and no adapters required.

The RedPark cable is the first and only cable approved by Apple to allow hobbyists to connect their iOS devices to external microcontrollers and sensors! With this cable, you can open up your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch and let your imagination run wild! Use external sensors in your iOS apps! Talk to an Arduino with your iPhone! The possibilities are unlimited!

Also, be sure to check out Alasidar Alan's book, iOS Sensor Apps with Arduino for ideas and instructions!
Does not require soldering
Enables development of iOS apps for private use in homes, schools and offices
Connects iOS devices to microcontrollers and sensors!
Designed for use with iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch (fourth generation), iPad 2 and iPad. Used in conjunction with the Redpark Serial Cable SDK and sample code. Together these tools enable you to write iOS apps that communicate with serial devices.
Requires iOS 5.0.1 or later.
We're working on a new tutorial but you can use this one until we get it together. Please note that the 5V connection is no longer required and the pinout should be GND -> GND, TX -> RX and RX -> TX. Also, be sure to declare the com.redpark.hobdb9 as a supported accessory protocol (or else it won't work.)

Cable pinout is: RTS, RX, TX, DTR, CTS, GND (orange -> black).

In addition, make sure that the wiring is done on the Arduino side before connecting to your iOS device.
