The Spark Core with Chip Antenna is a tiny wi-fi development board that makes it easy to create internet-connected hardware. The Core is all you need to get started; power it with a USB connection and in minutes you'll be controlling LEDs, switches and motors along with collecting data from sensors over the internet!

The Core has an on-board microcontroller, which is a small, low-cost, low-power computer that can run a single application. The microcontroller runs the show; it runs your software and tells the rest of the Core what to do. It doesn't have an Operating System the way that your computer does; it just runs a single application (often called firmware or an embedded application), which can be simple, just a few lines of code, or very complex, depending on what you want to do.

Spark is designed first and foremost to be easy to use; you can get started with little to no software or hardware experience. Familiar with Arduino? The Core uses Wiring, the same programming language that Arduino uses. Plus, with an accessory called the Shield Shield, you can connect the Core to any standard Arduino shield.

The Spark Core is also user-friendly as the hardware design files (schematic, board design, and bill of materials) and firmware are all open source.
