The Arduino Robot is a great way you can learn about electronics, mechanics, and programming with no soldering required. It's a tiny computer on wheels that you can hack to perform all sorts of tasks! Just pop in the included color LCD screen, load up the Arduino IDE, plug in the USB cable, and you'll be ready to load any one of the included example programs. The robot comes with a number of integrated inputs; two potentiometers, five buttons, a digital compass, five floor sensors, and an SD card reader. It also has a speaker, two motors, and a color screen as outputs, and plenty of prototyping space and TinkerKit connectors for expansion. It even includes 4 rechargeable AA batteries and a charger.

The "brains" of the robot consists of two ATmega32u4 microcontrollers, which are the same ones used in the Leonardo. One on the Control Board (top) and the other on the the Motor Board (bottom). If you're just getting started with electronics and programming, you should work with the Control Board. As you become more experienced, you may want to tinker with the Motor Board.

CONS:
1) Workmanship needs to be better for the price, one of the motors was loose and missing a screw (found it in the box).
2) Some of the connectors had to be straightened out.
3) The bottom shield is a joke, just paper.
4) There is NO info (papers or anything).

I also ordered the expansion kit.
I have not used anything yet, but there is NO mounting hardware of any kind, worth $100 ??

With all of that said I still gave it 3 stars because the boards seem very well made and open to a lot of options.

I have not used it yet but am looking forward to playing with it, after the batteries get charged.

All said and done I'm not sure it's worth the $375 I spent yet.

It should have come with more info and hardware for that price.

Will send a updated review after I play with it some.

My robot was well put together and included a US power adapter.

Software (Windows 7/64 bit) and Arduino 1.0.5 seems to be less than stable and some Arduino software (like Servo.h) gets errors. I haven't been able to get a PING))) sensor to work, but I did get a Sharp IR Rangefinder to work fine  (minor code changes were needed).

Great robot. Software???

Great idea. Poor execution. June 17, 2013

Received today (6-17-2013). Box was damaged.  Wheels were not mounted; found screws and pieces all over inside. Power adapter is for international use and will not work in domestic outlets.
Not sure if I'll be able to make it work or not at this point.

[updated 6/15]  This is a quick, initial review.  Order arrived in 3 days.  There were issues with build quality:
1. Unit was DOA on arrival.  After disassembly/reassembly of all cables, etc, it works.  I have not identified the original fault.
2. Power (wall wart) has an EU-spec wall plug - not US.  Required replacement.
3. Assembly is sloppy.   One motor/wheel assembly was not snapped into motor board, and several assembly screws were loose.   All easily fixed, but it required some modest disassembly/reassembly.
4. Battery holder attachment (rivet) to motor board is broken, leaving the holder unattached along one side.

Only #1 is critical, although I think it is reasonable to expect more from a $275 product.   On the positive side, the boards look great, the assembly instructions were clear and simple, and early programming works as expected.  I have high hopes for the robot as an instructional tool.
