The BeagleBone Black is the newest member of the BeagleBoard family. It's a lower-cost, high-expansion focused BeagleBoard based on the AM335x Cortex A8 ARM processor from Texas Instruments. This upgraded version features onboard HDMI and 512MB of RAM.

The BeagleBone Black offers higher performance and ready to use out of the box convenience. It includes all the necessary accessories in the box so you can spend more time programming and less time sourcing parts. Brilliant in theory, shaky in reality August 9, 2013
Reviewer: Toby from Portland, OR United States
I've spent hours trying to get my BBB to boot Ubuntu from the micro SD. This was a major selling point for me, but it is far from easy - I had to reflash the card with the update for the onboard Angstrom distro that's on the eMMC (which takes almost an hour to update itself!), then copy the Raring img back over it. It then boots, but is extremely unstable. There's no doubt the hardware rocks, but the software side feels very much like a work in progress...

UPDATE - by far the most important thing I can say is to get a decent power supply. Angstrom on the eMMC will run fine powered by the micro-usb, but Ubuntu will flatly refuse. I picked a D-Link wall wart that puts out 2A and my BBB has been working very nicely ever since.
