Description

The Electric Wave Clock is another one of our rewarding and educational Gakken sets. This time you get to build a retro radio wave clock that will look great in any bedroom or office, with the extra functionality of a manga flip book.

While the instructions and the magazine itself are in Japanese, a serious enthusiast will have a lot of fun testing their engineering skills with this construction kit. If you're creative you can also draw things on the clock "leaves" and make flip book animations.

Radio synchronized? December 18, 2013
Reviewer: Seamus from WV, United States
(Posted with a 3-star 'average' rating, since the site will not allow me to post a non-rated question)
Am I correct in understanding that (according to other sources online) the radio element of this clock kit is not for listening, but for synchronizing the mechanism with a standard radio time signal, in the same way that we use WWVB here in the US?  If so, then how accurately does it keep time without that signal, since it certainly won't be able to pick it up from all the way over in Japan?  I understand that the JJY radio time signal is "similar to" WWVB that we use in the US, but are the two compatible?  Will this clock synchronize using the WWVB signal in the absence of an available JJY signal?
