Make your very own hand-held game console and learn how to create your own video games.

Product #: MKTWS04

Build a hand-held game console from scratch with the DIY Gamer Kit, then code and invent your own games. Making, coding, inventing and playing with the gamer instills skills like electronics, coding, soldering, problem solving and debugging - in a fun and hands-on way.

Once you’ve made your gamer, you can control the screen (technically known as an 8×8 LED matrix display) in different ways, like by coding it. As soon as you’ve finished making your gamer (and after you’ve turned it on of course!) you’ll immediately be able to play two well-known games – Snakes and Pong. Once you’ve smashed your highest score, you’re ready for the next step! Start to understand more about how the gamer works by downloading Breakout from the online code library.

You will need an Arduino to form the base of your console. A little bit like a brain, the Arduino sends signals to your gamer’s screen and buttons to help you play your game. Arduino is an open-source platform, which means that lots of people can use it to share ideas and projects. When you’re more advanced you can download the Arduino software and introduce yourself to the wonderful world of physical computing.
