The PowerSwitch Tail II lets you safely control a device plugged into a 120vac outlet using almost any microcontroller. It's a smart alternative to slicing apart power cords to wire up your own relays. Its a compact 3-pronged extension cord, with a relay board embedded in the middle.

This new model switches up to 15 amps of current (50% more than the original) using a 3-12 vdc (3-30ma) control signal, meaning no more driver circuits! Just plug one wire into ground, the other to a digital pin and you can control the PSTII as easy as you would blink an LED. You can also control multiple PSTII's from one pin. Use of an opto-isolator ensures no stray voltage can cross over to your microcontroller or computer.
