I had no experience, but followed the tips in the book, and it didn't take long before my solders were looking great! I was surprised that it could be learned so quickly. I soldered everything in about 10 minutes, so it would have been nice to get a few more cheap resistors/leds/something to practice on. My kit was missing the cross-cut pliers and solder wick, but tech support shipped them out quickly after a call.
Bottom Line: I just learned to solder in about a half hour for $75, and, while I could still use some practice with neatness, I can confidently recommend this kit for beginners. I'm giving it 4 of 5 stars as there were too few components in the kit and I'd soldered everything in a very short time, but overall, I am happy with the purchase (and tech support.)
