Purchased for a child, but enjoyed by all. The reality on the instructions is that there are only few steps and it is working just fine.
The only problem I had was with the provided adhesive strip for the cone which goes over the assembly, so I just introduced my own tape to bind them. Not rocket science.
The box comes attached with 4 color process small magazine style instructions and pictures. To be honest the japanese instructions printed within this attached magazine atop the box notched up its cool factor a few degrees. If it came in anything else, it might seem like it was purchased at Walgreens.
While that last bit is not a knock on the quality, just that without the great packaging in japanese, and wonderful pictures, this product just isn't as intriguing on the outset.
Makes a unique gift idea that you can be sure will be enjoyed by any child or young adult. Perhaps a few adults as well, considering Lava lamps once were a big seller.

My 12 & 13 year old grandkids liked this little kit quite a bit. Easy to put together and fun to play with in a darkened bathroom or closet. You get some nice color patterns.
There's not much learning here, just some fun.
