Great tech demo December 1, 2010
Reviewer: Konstantin Svist from Mountain View, CA United States
Using Samsung N130
Pros: works great in sunlight. Amazing!

Cons:
* no-backlight mode is fairly useless with indoor lighting - you have to struggle to see the screen. Since PixelQi.com makes direct comparison to the e-readers, I was expecting similar performance.
* viewing angle is VERY poor with backlight on:
** black gets a white hue 5-10 degrees from the normal. I.e. if you place the netbook in your lap or closer, you'll see different blacks with left/right eyes. Very annoying :(
** white inverts into black 30 degrees toward the bottom. This is fairly reasonable since the screen is rarely used that way.
* with backlight on and black screen I see a pattern of reddish diagonal lines. The lines are angled from bottom left to upper right corners of the screen. When the viewing angle is changed, line color changes too

Works in Compaq Mini November 30, 2010
Reviewer: Tom van Rijswijk from Son, N-Br Netherlands
Although less straightforward as in the youtube instruction, with some determination and a good "Maintenance and Service Guide" for the Compaq Mini 110, I exchanged the display with the Pixel Qi.

The Compaq mini doesn't have a way to turn off the backlight (haven't found it yet anyway), but like others are saying, the display "changes" modes automatically depending on the ambient light.

Sunshine's now an asset! November 3, 2010
Reviewer: Wayne Ruffner from West Bloomfield, MI United States
For those of use who have to work outside with a laptop, this thing's a miracle.

Now that I have this and understand how it operates, I think I should explain my perception: There's no "mode" or driver or anything - it's just there, doing its thing. Indoors, it's a regular 10.1" screen, showing color using its own backlight. But when the ambient light overwhelms the backlight (as in going outside), the ambient light now reflects off the internal rear of the screen. There's no special key combo needed to make the thing "change modes" or anything like that - the only option possible is to kill the backlight when it's unnecessary. NBD.

The only real diff between "normal" and outside is that the color of the indoor mode is wiped out when outside - each colored pixel is now gray when outside in the sun. Shade the screen enough and you can see the color's still there.

Acer N260 October 22, 2010
Reviewer: JF Laplante from Quebec, QC Canada
Doesn't work in Acer N260 Netbook. The connector is in the wrong position and the LCD is too thick. However, I've seen it in an older Aspire One and it was working pretty well in direct sunlight. I will try it in a different model. Any advices?

Drops in to Dell Mini 10 October 6, 2010
Reviewer: Peter Simpson from W Newton, MA United States
I just replaced the display on our Dell Mini 10 (Ref No: 09017, Model: PP19S) with this display.  Size, connector and mounting holes are exactly the same as the stock Dell display.

Aaaand...it works perfectly!  Nice, clear colors.
Haven't yet figured out how to turn the backlight completely off, but it brightens and dims with the keyboard keys.

Waiting for this for years. September 11, 2010
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from San Luis Obispo, CA United States
Install was easy on Samsung NB30.  Although I have a Dell ATG with a "daylight readable" screen, this is so far beyond that its unbelievable.  In room light, it is still a good performer, I actually prefer it to the NB30 standard screen.   I have been waiting for a product like this for years.  All we need now is more models for higher spec laptops, and a good compatibility list.

Awesome! September 9, 2010
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from Marina del Rey, CA United States
Finally found a way to work at the beach.  I was a little nervous about taking apart my netbook (never done anything like that before), but it was simple and the results couldn't be better.  I modified my Samsung N220 Plus, which now gets more than ten hours of use without charging.  Well worth the extra money of purchasing this display.  I just don't know what to do with the old display now.  Thanks for letting me redefine what it means to have a "desk job".

pixel qi installed on NB30 european version August 13, 2010
Reviewer: quentin coquerel from rouen, 76000 France
the exchange of the original display with the pixel qi one was easy, as described everywhere : the connector was placed at the same place, so no problem. The NB30 I have was provided with a TOUCHSCREEN, wich was glued with thermoglue to the original screen ; so in order to keep it, I removed all the glue that was between the screen and the glass touchscreen. I did it with a very sharp knife (a scalpel) very carefully, because the touchscreen is really fragile. Took me 3 whole hours to remove it all !
I cleaned the touchscreen, put some double sided tape around it (2 layers, to have the same space between the touchscreen and the pixel qi display !)
and mounted it back in the netbook, and voila !
3 stars only, because I bought this screen to use it most of the time with backlight off, but the contrast is too bad to use it indoor with poor light. B&W mode is only usefull when put under sunshine ! (maybe the extra layer due to the touchscreen doesn't help with the contrast ratios...)

Samsung NB30 + Fedora 13, very happy August 11, 2010
Reviewer: WoodR from Harvest, AL United States
Purchased a new samsung NB30 to install the pixel qi display.  Installation was pretty easy, only requiring a 000 phillips head screwdriver and some gentle prying to remove the front cover of the display.  You have to move the mounting brackets from the original display, but that only involves a few more screws.  Took about 15 minutes (stubby fingers + small screws are a bad combination).

Display is beautiful.  It would be nice to have better contrast when the backlight was off, but this is a first generation device and it performs exactly as advertised.

I'm running Fedora 13 which performs very well on the netbook (I also upgraded to 2GB RAM, but Fedora was doing fine with the factory 1GB).  Fedora does not have built-in support for most of the Fn key combinations, including the ones to adjust brightness and toggle the backlight.  The instructions on this page show how to enable these features using a few shell scripts:

Pixel Qi / Samsung NB30 July 31, 2010
Reviewer: Natalius Kiedro from Germany
5 stars in my case - no pixel error - and the proper 40 pin connector. While the display change does take longer than 5 min - it is definitely worth the effort. The result is a glimpse to the future of displays.
Thanks MakerShed and Pixel Qi!
